This was a fun assignment, profiling a sculptor in his 80s who does beautiful work in wood, mostly in monumental form but also in smaller, more intimate pieces. Unfortunately, the lede sentence got chopped off in the editing process; the story should begin with:
“Going strong at eighty-eight, sculptor and National Sculpture Society Fellow John Edward Svenson turns out impressive works in wood and metals, but finds a special joy in working with wood.”
